Extraordinary young girl inspired to fundraise for premature sister

An extraordinary young girl is looking to raise money for the charity which helped support her little sister who suffered numerous complications after she was born four months premature.

Four-year-old Alina Brett is raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities – which offers a lifeline for families of children in hospital by providing free accommodation near hospitals.

Last summer, Alina’s sister, Anela, decided to arrive in the world four months early. Mum Amy told News in Beckenham: “We were on holiday at the time, so all of a sudden my husband and I had an extremely premature baby in intensive care, a three-year-old wondering where her holiday had gone, and nowhere to stay.”

What followed were five, long months in various Brighton and London hospitals as Anela battled with sepsis, chronic lung disease and metabolic bone disease, needing countless blood transfusions and heart surgery.

Anela is now finally home and Alina, who attends St Edmunds Pre-School in Beckenham, is raising much-needed funds for the charity which supported her little sister and to help others who find themselves in similar situations.

Amy added: “The Ronald McDonald houses gave us a home in the very hardest of times, allowing us to stay, as a family, close to Anela.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my daughter for the way she’s handled the most challenging eight months of her little life. And now she’s thinking of others and wanting to give something back.”

Alina has helped raise almost £700 at the time of writing. To donate to Alina’s campaign, you can visit her JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/alina-brett
