Local dementia nursing home upgraded to ‘Good’

A local nursing home has been rewarded for its efforts after being upgraded from ‘Requires Improvement’ to a rating of ‘Good’ following a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

Bromley Park Dementia Nursing Home, which is located on Bromley Road, was rated as ‘Good’ across all categories: Safe; Effective; Caring; Responsive and Well-led.

The report shows a marked improvement since 2017 when the home was given ‘Requires Improvement’ overall and ‘Inadequate’ for safety. At the time, the CQC highlighted a number of concerns and found “a breach of regulation 12 as some changes in risks for some people had not always been identified, monitored or guidance provided to staff.”

However, the most recent inspection, which took place in November 2018 and was unannounced, found that those concerns had been met and that “risks to people were identified, assessed and managed by staff to help keep people safe and well.”

The report noted: “People were protected from the risk of abuse, because staff were aware of the types of abuse and the action to take to ensure people’s safety and well-being.

“There were systems in place to ensure people were protected from the risk of infection and the home environment was clean and well maintained. Accidents and incidents were recorded, monitored and acted on appropriately.”

The report also praised the nursing home’s “recruitment practices” and “quality of service”.

The nursing home’s manager, Khadija Kachra, told News in Beckenham: “Bromley Park Care Centre is extremely happy to celebrate achieving an overall CQC rating of ‘Good’.

“The past 18 months have been challenging, but also exciting as the staffing team has evolved and developed to become the fantastic team we are today.

“It’s a wonderful home where care spurs innovation to continually find new avenues of learning and networking, to enable us to support the people in our care, the best way we can. We also appreciate all the external support and especially that of our residents’ families and visitors.”

Bromley Park Dementia Nursing Home – which is run by care home provider Nellsar – is a care home that specialises in care and support for people living with dementia and can accommodate up to 38 people.
