Local businessman prepares to shave off silver locks for charityWhat Mark might look like without his silver locks

The managing director of a Beckenham estate agents who sadly lost his mother to cancer 10 years ago and his father to heart failure two years ago, will be shaving off all his hair to in an effort to raise much-needed funds for various charities.

Mark Atterano, managing director of Winkworth Beckenham estate agents, has himself suffered mental health issues in the past and has decided to give back by fundraising for a host of worthy causes including Cancer Research UK, Stroke Association, British Heart Foundation and Mind.

Mark will be having his silver locks shaved off on Tuesday, December 22 and is urging supporters to donate to one of his chosen charities, or even a charity of their own choice.

Speaking to News in Beckenham, Mark said: “I lost my mum to cancer 10 years ago, and she had a severe stroke a few years before. I also lost my dad to heart failure two years ago. These are sadly three of the biggest reasons for loss of life in this country.

“I also wanted to draw attention to mental health, which is something that I’ve had to deal with myself in the past. Not only is this the main reason for men ending their lives between the age of 35-50, even more sadly it is the biggest cause of life loss in teenagers and young people.

“I wanted to help raise the profile of some of these wonderful charities, especially this year as many of them have been sadly neglected due to the pandemic. When I started this campaign I was hoping to achieve in excess of £500, and I’m delighted that to date we have so far raised in the region of £1,300.

“I’m extremely touched by the kindness and generosity shown by so many people, even though many of them have had to endure difficult times themselves. Thank you to everyone for your very kind support.”
