Palace training ground given worst food hygiene rating

The kitchen at Crystal Palace’s training ground, which is based in Copers Cope Road, Beckenham, was given a food hygiene rating of 0 following its most recent full inspection.

The inspection was carried out in August last year and Crystal Palace Training Ground received a zero rating as a result of “unacceptable conditions” according to the report.

The inspector stated at the time that: “I am disappointed as you have failed to ensure the safety of the food you are producing and feeding your staff.”

During the visit, the inspector found that there was a “significant” mouse problem which required immediate action and the kitchen was subsequently closed for a few days in order to address the matter.

The inspector also found that there was no hot water or hygienic hand drying facilities at the wash hand basin.

Crystal Palace Football Club has since improved the training ground conditions but will keep its score of zero until a new full inspection is undertaken later this year.

A club spokesperson said: “We invested substantially in the training ground over the summer, upgrading facilities for our players and staff, and immediately took action to remedy the issues highlighted in the kitchen area following the works.

“The remedial action was approved by the environmental health inspector and we are confident that our five-star rating at Beckenham will be restored when we are re-inspected, in line with our five-star rating for the kitchen facilities at Selhurst Park.”
