Covid Winter Grants to support children and families

Support for Beckenham children and their families to help cover the Christmas period is coming forward, with schools contacting eligible parents with details.

Around 11,000 children and young people across the borough are eligible for the £600k of additional support which is being given as part of the government’s Covid Winter Grant Scheme.

Eligible families will be provided with a supermarket voucher distributed via their child’s school to help with costs, covering both the Christmas and the February half term period.

Councillor Peter Fortune, deputy leader and executive councillor for children, education and families, said: “We are continuing to be available to offer support and advice to families facing all kinds of difficulties as part of our all year-round work. We are working very closely with schools across the borough, including the independent Academy Trusts which are not managed by the council to support children and families.

“This approach avoids a lengthy bureaucratic application process and gets the funds direct to the families that most need it, which is what we are focused on doing and my sincere thanks go to schools who are giving immense support to this important work.”

Further details will be published online shortly, and will be available here: www.bromley.gov.uk/Covid-19.
